Random thoughts and Monday meanderings on the first day of October, by far one of the most spectacular months on the calendar in Middle Georgia.
Well, we came. We saw. We kazooed. OK, so we fell short of the record Thursday night at Luther Williams Field. But it was a big night for Macon and
the Georgia State Fair.
It was fun. It was festive. I believe most everybody there enjoyed the event. I had the opportunity to address the crowd. I thanked them for coming
out on a night when dark clouds circled the fairgrounds.
But I mostly thanked everyone for coming together and taking part in something special. At least we tried. You will always miss 100 percent of the
shots you don't take.
Steve Scroggins, who spearheaded the kazoo attempt for the Georgia State Fair and Exchange Club of Macon, said the 2,002 folks who signed the
list represented 42 different cities and towns in Georgia.
He said it appears Macon, Warner Robins, Lizella and Gray had the highest representation, but several people came from the Atlanta area.
Some of the other states represented were Alabama, Virginia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Florida, Tennessee, California, New Jersey, Louisiana,
Texas and New York. There was one kazooer from Russia.
At any rate, I'm glad the fair organizers are already talking about trying again next year. Macon is the birthplace of the kazoo. Owning that
record should be our birthright.
So let's try one more time. If we can't do it then, then we can put it to rest. I'm convinced we will prevail. I've already got the theme
picked out: "We Kanzoo It!" ...
