Pig Out at the Park 2003
The second annual Pig Out at the Park was Friday & Saturday, September 26-27.
The 2003 Georgia STATE FAIR held a Memphis-in-May Sanctioned Barbeque Cookoff and Championship September 26-27. Friday was the Cookoff and Saturday we held the Championship Judging. ( See photos & links to more photos below ). See Results below . Thirteen teams competed in the three categories (Whole Hog, Shoulder and Ribs) and all camped overnight...filling the park with the wonderful smells of barbeque smoke. We had Teams and judges from all over the southeast, one team came from Lafayette, Louisiana! We had some FANTASTIC barbeque! The Food Network was on hand to record the event and the show will air in the Spring of 2004. The event was sponsored by FoodMax. Please help us find a sponsor for the 2004 Pig Out in the Park ! We cannot afford to hold a 2004 PigOut without the support of a sponsor.
Anticipation and great-smelling smoke fills the air Friday evening as
each team gets set up...
but the mood and the pace is still relaxed...
But Saturday, each team had on their "game faces" as the judging commenced...
and TV crews were
there to record every detail...
Boggy Pond BBQ Brigade of Moultrie (above) is named Grand Champions
Because the Grand Champion has already won a place in next year's Memphis in May, Smokey Bones BBQ (above)
will represent the Georgia State Fair in Memphis, May 2004.
